While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.

Position Summary:

The Business Development Lead - NBA G League will be responsible for generating revenue through sales of sponsorships via integrated marketing and media platforms for the NBA G League. This individual will also be responsible for researching and identifying strategic new business opportunities for the NBA G League. Sponsorship sales will be tied to G League Events, Content, and overall league assets (e.g. jersey patch).  

Major Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement partner acquisition strategies (prospect identification, outreach, pitch ideation, proposal development) for new G League partnerships
  • Understand the NBA G League’s assets, offerings, services and internal processes needed to better serve partnerships
  • Establish and build relationships with key external contacts (e.g., corporate decision makers at Fortune 500 companies and influencers in the sports marketing and agency world)
  • Coordinate with appropriate internal resources to develop customized programs for prospects (e.g., Media, NBA Cares, PR, Events)
  • Collaborate seamlessly with Global Media and Partnership Development throughout sales and development funnel
  • Source, cultivate, and close partnership deals
  • Align with various groups in Global Partnerships such as Partnership Management, Activation, Retail Development to bring best ideas to market
  • Collaborate with the G League Business Operations team to identify category opportunities
  • Identify leads/trends in team partnerships for league sponsorship prospecting
  • Deliver impactful on-brand and on-target partnership programs for new business prospects
  • Use storytelling to effectively sell-in partnership ideas to new business prospects
  • Develop, visualize and present customized partnership solutions for prospective sponsors
  • Facilitate ideation by leading cross-functional brainstorms to inform creative solutions
  • Be proactive and resourceful; manage partner relationship and solve any NBA G League partnership issues that might arise with tact and diplomacy
  • Benchmark and track KPIs in order to maintain success metrics for evaluating licensing and other partnerships
  • Become fluent with all areas of the G League’s partnership contractual terms
  • Develop sales presentations, deal memos, reports and other partner-related materials as needed

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 8-10 years of experience working in corporate partnerships, directly sourcing and generating new business
  • Experience managing multiple projects, setting priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Commercially minded and results driven with a track record of securing high level partnerships
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and presentation skills
  • Up to date with business trends across various markets and industry sectors
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a global, matrix organization
  • Understanding of media rights landscape, a plus
  • Experience in professional sports organizations preferred
  • Deal execution experience required

Education:

Bachelor's Degree required
