How do I make my application stand out?

August 7, 2020

For marketing specific roles, you will need to have some kind of marketing experience to speak to. More broadly, PepsiCo really looks for problem solvers and people with an entrepreneurial mindset.

What do I need to do to get promoted?

August 7, 2020

I knew that my peers and I were high performers, and that helped in my advocating for a promotion after the first-year vs 2-year mark. You get a rating from a 1-5 scale at the end of the year. I got a high rating, and I knew that my peers did as well, so I knew that we were high performing employees, and that was good support for our case to get promoted.

August 7, 2020

Promotions typically come every 1-2 years for analyst and manager levels. Progression slows down at the Sr. Manager levels.

Promotion discussions

There was a point where my peers and I weren’t getting promoted after 2 years. There’s not a lot of turnover in my group, so it’s hard to get promoted. I ended up speaking up about it, and my manager took it to HR, and we ultimately got a double promotion to make up for it.

Company culture

I love the company culture. It’s really collaborative. I learn a ton. It’s challenging, but it’s not cutthroat and you're not pinned against your peers.

Diversity programs

We really prioritize diversity as we recruit. The analyst to manager level is pretty diverse.

Diversity programs

We need to do more work on retention. We need to focus on how much we’re mentoring people to feel supported to get to senior leadership levels. There’s no Hispanic person in leadership, but this differs across brands and locations.

Diversity programs

We have a lot of ERGs. Mosaic is for the Black community, Adelante is for the Hispanic community, and there’s one for women and for veterans as well. The ERGs could be more effective. We have a lot of good touchpoints and events to celebrate culture, but there’s always room for improvement.

Company culture

Meeting employees halfway as it pertains to scheduling flexibility is a huge strength for PepsiCo. Also, within Marketing, Finance and Sales, there are a considerable amount of poc, even as you work up the ladder. I wasn't expecting to see as many black women dominating the Marketing floor as I did.

Diversity programs

More intentionality in bringing together the black employees could be helpful. They have employee resource groups but, to my knowledge, there's work to be done a it pertains to mobilization.

Relationships with manager(s)

Great. My managers were very flexible and genuinely wanted to see me excel.
