Handling the application process

September 14, 2020

Make sure to ask lots of questions throughout the application and interview process! This is your only real opportunity to make sure you fully understand the job, the company, and its culture before you start. It's never worth keeping questions to yourself. No hiring process is perfect, so it's up to you to find out as much as you can in case something got missed. But, it also leaves a great impression! People want to know that you're really interested in the job as well as the company, and interviewing the interviewer is a great way to do that. They'll notice the opposite as well—if you don't ask questions, they may see you as disinterested, incurious, or not serious about the job. You may also find that you don't like the direction the job, the company, or its culture may be headed in, and it's always better to know that before you start!

Company culture

I started with commercetools about a month ago and even in my short time here I have been blown away by the company culture and diversity programs the organization offers. From the interviews all the way through being immersed into the position I have been very impressed with the level of dedication commercetools has put in to provide a safe space for ALL minority groups. To highlight a few key points that are close to my heart: commercetools supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, utilizing black owned businesses and even providing future internship opportunities for people of color in tech is just a small part of how commercetools is doing their part to create a space where these topics/conversations are welcome. As a black woman, it is so important for me to feel as though the company I work with cares enough to see and hear the struggles that so many of my people go through on a daily basis. It can be very intimidating as a black person to walk into a predominately white and or male dominated industry but I love the welcoming attitudes I received in my time here so far. Talk is cheap so I appreciate the work this company is putting in to DO not just talk!
